Frequently Asked Questions

What is Picket Fence?

Picket Fence is a free ranked blog directory for bloggers. Blogs are ranked by popularity, based on incoming traffic, on each respective page.

How can I get my blog on here? How much does it cost?

We are glad you want to join us here at Picket Fence. Anyone who fits into one of our blog categories is welcome to sign their blog up after they create an account. You can register for FREE at any time. Once you register, you will receive an email to validate your account. After that, you can add 1, 2, or even more, blogs to your account from the My Account page.

My blog was listed, but now it is gone. What happened?

Chances are we did a reset in order to provide opportunities to blogs that have not been participating as long, but are just as worthy of a high ranking. If no reset occurred, it is possible that your blog was removed from our site. Please check your email, as we do NOT remove blogs (other than spam) without notice.

Also, check to make sure you have at least one vote by logging into your account. If you have no votes then just click the button you added to your site to give yourself a vote. We will only list blogs that have at least one vote.

If your blog is indeed gone from the site and your account, and you received no notice, please contact us!

How do I get votes for my blog?

Votes are collected by visitors clicking on your referral link, usually from a button on your website. You can also place your referral url other places and encourage your friends and family to visit the link. Also, remember that each visitor can only vote once per day.

If you would like a button on your site, login to My Account and click Buttons below the blog listed for which you would like to add a button. You will then be shown several button options with code that you can paste into your blog or website.

Voting for users on their behalf is not allowed. Voting through pay-per-click sites, or paying users to click your link is not allowed. (Voting for a giveaway/contest entry is allowed.) Any of these actions could result in your votes being reduced, or reset.

What is a reset, and why do you do it?

A reset involves us removing all votes and visits from all blogs on the site.

We periodically reset all vote counts in order to provide opportunities to blogs that have not been participating as long, but are just as worthy of a high ranking. It also helps to remove blogs that are no longer using Picket Fence, but are still listed.

We do this for you. Resetting votes cleans out the site and ensures that the most up-to-date and relevant blogs have a chance do be found among all the potentially dead or out-of-date blogs. When a reset is about to occur, a notification will appear across the top of the site at least 1 week in advance.

How do I add a button/image to your site?

In order to add an image that appears with your listing, you must have the image already on the Internet. It cannot be on your computer. Login to My Account and click Edit beneath the blog you wish to edit. Then fill in the Button URL field with the URL to the image. Generally, it should start with

and end with

If you already have the image on your blog, you can right click on it and select Copy Image Location and then paste that into the Button URL.

My newest posts are not showing up?

In order for your blog to be automatically updated, you must have more than 5 votes. We are constantly trying to update our site to be better and faster, and are trying our best to keep with the the demand of updating everyones posts. Our site scans every 10 minutes 24 hours a day and will check each blog every couple of hours for new posts. Only posts from the last 30 days will be added to this site, and then will be removed after 30 days. If you can't wait a couple of hours and you use Wordpress, see below.

In Wordpress, go to Settings and click on Writing. At the bottom of the page, in the box that says Update Services, add http://picketfenceblogs.com/rpc/ on a new line. Wordpress will now automatically tell our site when you have published a new post.

Other Blogging Services (Blogger, Tumblr, etc.):
At this time, other blogging services do not allow you to add custom update services. We will be adding a manual method shortly.
